Privacy and cookies

Spainbase is run by the Gonzalez family. This page says, in plain words, what we keep about you, why, and how to make us stop. It was last updated on 19 September 2026.

Who we are

Spainbase (spainbase.co) is a family-run guide to moving to Spain. For anything about your data, write to hello@spainbase.co.

What we collect, and why

The visa quiz. Your answers (citizenship, work, income band, household, timing and preferences) and your email address. We use them to work out which visa route fits, to show you your results, and to send them to you by email so you can find them again. The answers are stored with our database provider, Supabase, and the results are tied to a private link that only you receive.

Follow-up email. After the quiz we may send you a handful of emails: a reminder about the strategy call, an offer on it, and about once a month a new article from the journal. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and one click ends all of them.

Sharing with partners, only if you say so. On the last step of the quiz there is an unticked box. If you tick it, you allow us to pass your name, email address and quiz answers to selected partners whose services people use when moving to Spain: relocation and visa services, lawyers and gestores, property and rental agents, health insurers, banks and money-transfer services, and language schools. They may then contact you about their services, and we may be paid for the introduction. Under Californian law this counts as “selling” or “sharing” personal information. We do not share anything with partners unless that box is ticked, and you can withdraw the permission at any time (see “Your choices” below). Partners handle your data under their own privacy policies; some are outside the European Union, and where that is the case we use contracts based on the EU standard contractual clauses.

Legal basis. We rely on your consent for the quiz emails and for partner sharing, and on our legitimate interest in running the site and the strategy calls for the rest. You can withdraw consent at any time without affecting anything that happened before.

Booking a call. Payment is taken by Stripe on Stripe’s own pages. We never see your card number. Stripe tells us your name, email and that the payment went through. Your call is then booked through Calendly, and your quiz summary is passed to the calendar invite so we arrive prepared. Stripe and Calendly each have their own privacy policies.

Email delivery. Our emails are sent through Resend from servers in the European Union.

Nothing else. We do not run analytics, advertising pixels or social media trackers on this site.

Cookies and browser storage

Most of what this site remembers lives in your own browser and never leaves it:

• spainbase_quiz and spainbase_results: your answers and results, so you can close the tab and come back.
• spainbase_lead: the private link to your saved results.
• spainbase_quiz_seen and spainbase_bar_off: whether you have already closed the quiz or the reminder bar this visit.
• sb_consent: your answer to the cookie banner, kept for a year.

Two things set cookies of their own, and only when you choose to use them: Stripe, on its checkout page, and Calendly, in the booking calendar. The calendar is not loaded until you allow it. You can change your choice at any time from the “Cookie settings” link at the foot of every page.

How long we keep it

Quiz answers and email addresses are kept so that your results link keeps working and so we know not to write to you again after you unsubscribe. Ask and we will delete them.

Your choices: do not sell or share my information

You can stop us sharing your details with partners at any time, and stop the emails, in either of two ways: click the unsubscribe link at the foot of any email we have sent you (that link also withdraws partner sharing), or write to hello@spainbase.co with the address you used. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16, and we do not use your data for automated decisions that have legal effects on you.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask for a copy in a portable form, or object to how we use it. Californian residents have the same rights under the CCPA, and we will not treat you differently for using them. Email hello@spainbase.co and we will do it within a month. If you think we have handled your data badly you can complain to your national data protection authority; in Spain that is the AEPD.

Changes

If we change what we collect, we will change this page and update the date at the top.
